My Birthday

 My Birthday

So last week I turned 32, it was low key and perfect. I went to dinner with my wife and a couple friends at a place in Cambridge, MA in the area of Central Square. Before I get in to the place we went to dinner, we grabbed a drink (or two) at this great little pub. The place was called The Field (20 Prospect St., Cambridge, MA) my wife found it by looking for places with outdoor seating for drinks. It was perfect a combo of me and her. Me =  little, divey, Irish pub with tons of character, Her = large outdoor patio with ample seating (I don't dislike the large patio either haha). Here is a picture of their patio:

It was just us for quite a while until a few other groups joined us. I have heard this place is extremely popular and the patio gets very crowded on the weekends, but for an after work drink on a regular work day it was perfect. Now, I will WARN YOU that The Field is CASH ONLY so go prepared. Also a note right around the corner from there is an ATM for Bank of America and TD Bank (they are across the street from one another on Massachusetts Ave.).

After drinks we went to a great little restaurant called Little Donkey (505 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA) (I know, I know, funny name) it was just a short stroll from The Field and we had a reservation (which I would recommend). The restaurant is run by the same people that run Toro in Boston's South End (if you haven't been there I recommend it). Little Donkey serves tapas style fusion food that is great for sharing and eclectic. We ordered a wide variety of foods and drinks (the later of which worked out as everyone preferred a drink other than what they ordered and we all ended up trading haha). Here are some highlights:

1)The Burger - Straight forward, simple and delicious. It was made with extremely high quality ingredients but gave the over all experience and flavor of a typical diner burger (just perfect).

2) The Mexican Dan Dan Noodles- This was great dish that seemed to be a table pleaser. for my palette it could have been a bit spicier as the peanut sauce seemed to wash out the chilis

3) The Burrata- I mean come on cheese, garlic, sauce, and toast, sign me up.

For a beverage I ended up with:

The One in The Grapefruit (which is how it would be referred to anyways even if it had a different name and I love that they embrace this)- This had an unexpected flavor as you expect a drink in a fruit to be very sweet and this was not. It was however very florally and delicious and I would highly recommend it, plus it is an Instagram hit. (see below)

Finally, we finished with dessert and had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. This is exactly what you hope it is. (see below)

It is uncooked cookie dough served on the mixer. It was an excellent fun way to end the night. I had an excellent evening and would recommend both places. I will keep you all posted as I try more places. I will also be posting again tomorrow or Saturday with a write up on my birthday weekend adventures in Maine.

See you out there

John
